Size is more important in combat sports than in other sports. Most of those sports have size increases similar to what is seen by HW boxers. If you debate it, you post evidence to the contra. All sports with tangible records have seen those records shattered in the past 40 years. I've posted it in the past on other forums, won't take the time to do it with someone whose mind is closed, and who could easily look up the same if inclined. Data on tangible records broken and and the size increases of same are out there. You ignore the logic and evidence I post and say I have no evidence. Look, it's hard to argue with a fence post, but I'll hit the high points. You have no rational capability and you think you are intelligent. Jeez, just unhinged Dunning Kruger in full effect. There is no reason anyone should accept your opinion as anything but that.Īnd this "best evidence" (which you haven't provided) is so "considerable" you can only make tautologies. You haven't backed up that claim with evidence or logic. Speaking of having nothing to do with the central point you've made a claim. Those are strawman arguments that have nothing to do with the central point, that the best evidence is that HW boxing has seen considerable progress in the H2H capabilities of its top boxers. If you reject the inference, congratulations. I mean, it's a rational inference that comes from the arguments you're making. No one is saying smaller fighters can't beat bigger fighters, or that some fighters lose efficacy if they put on weight. You've done nothing to establish that anything in this word salad is true, but accuse me of being "irrational" for not blindly accepting it. You don't know what "rational" and "irrational" mean. It is simply irrational to think HW boxing is a special flower where normal rules of progress don't work, even though size is even more important in combat sports than other sports. Sports with tangible records are as different from each other as boxing is to them. Whether it's just like any other sport is debatable. No, I'm just rational and unbiased while you are incapable or at least unwilling to do the same.īoxing is a sport. You aren’t better informed because you’re more convinced of your own brilliance. As David Tua got bigger, he got worse, to use one example. But it’s far from the only thing that matters.Īnd it can be a disadvantage as well. Size is just one of them.īig guys lose to small guys all the time. There are outs of things that could be advantageous. It’s false that it’s the only thing that matters. I’m questioning what that has to do with boxing, specifically. Though, I think it’s more accurate to say that technology, athletics, and training have improved in a lot of ways. I’m not contesting whether or not other sports have “gotten better”. If fights went back to 15 rounds it's quite possible 200lb heavyweights would become the norm again.īasically that's a long winded way of me saying I don't have a clue haha, but it's fun to speculate a nuanced take on such a barbaric sport. Hell even 190lb Joe Louis knocked out a couple of SHW's back in the day. I just don't know if there have been universal advancements in boxing training compared to the big team sports. Anthony Joshua does heavy doubles on barbell squats which is really kind of pointless for boxing, just like Wilder's bench pressing or even Manny Pac's 9 mile runs. Even a couple generations ago 5'10 Tyson was winning world titles in the 80s with methods Floyd Patterson used in the 50s. Size and advancements in sport are of course a big deal but we've also got former CW Usyk and 215-lb Wilder being quite dominant today. I think Ali, Holmes, Usyk, Joshua, Fury etc would be champions in any era. With boxing so many people either say "The golden age fighters were the most talented, nobody today comes close" or "the modern guys are too big and more skilled, they would destroy the old timers like in every other sport" when I think the real answer lies somewhere in the middle.
